Chairman’s Message

It is my pleasure to welcome you at BDSF website. Now it is twenty three years since the establishment of the Fund in 1996.
Throughout its course of history up to now, the Fund has successfully participated as an effective safety net player by protecting depositors alongside its preventive and remedial roles.
The long lasting effects of the financial crises has led monetary authorities across the globe including Basel Committee and International Financial Stability Board and in close collaboration with the International Deposit Insurers Association (IADI) to devise the Core Principles of Effective Deposit Insurance.
Those Principles have been widely accepted and adopted by Central Banks and Deposit Insurance Institutions which consequently reinforced the deposit insurance schemes as an important safety net counterpart.
Deposit insurance reinforces depositors confidence in banking system by mobilizing people’s savings into the banking system and hence contributing in financial inclusion.
The BDSF new web site is launched in light of the remarkable achievements of the Fund such as building strong target funds and increasing the maximum coverage limits beside its continuous presence in international deposit insurance forums.
This effective contribution in international forums has culminated in the selection of the General Manager of the Fund as the chairperson of the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) committee of the IADI.
Moreover, the Fund is a founding member of the Islamic Deposit Insurance Group (IDIG) as well as being an effective member of the African Regional Group (ARC).  ‏On the other hand the number of member banks has increased to reach thirty seven by the end of December 2013, of which twenty three commercial banks, six specialized banks and eight branches of foreign banks.
